“But if you are a man…”

When Pyrrhus, king of Epirus, was marching upon Sparta, the Spartans sent a delegation to him in order to discover his intentions.  Although he was evasive, they saw his ultimate plans, and reminded him not to be too proud, telling him, “If you are a god, we will come to no harm, for we have done none.  But if you are a man, you will meet another greater than you.”
